Counting The Hours

By five I’m usually up. Five down.

I’ve no clean shirt, one sock. Two eggs, three coffees. Pick a tie. Take away one.

I lose two commuting; add a negative nine at desk. (divide by coffee hourly) minus cigarettes (disallowed). Lunch - one take away hamburger, carried over.

My day? Three new problems multiplying, and one left over. Hometime - subtract another two hours. Dinner equals a meal for one times six minutes on high. Adds another pound.

Go to bed minus one. Distract by 60 Minutes on CBS.

Tomorrow, another day -  try again to make it all add up.

Today’s result: Zero.
Restricting a piece of writing to 100 words - that's the principle behind the style known as Drabble.
This was originally a comment on 100 Words Nightmare by *BornBlitzed and as such is based on his original piece. As well as developing *BornBlitzed's theme of repetition and futility, I also wanted to explore the feeling of having a limited number of words trickling away, so extended the arithmetic motif.

The piece Discovering Drabble was originally meant to form part of this description, before it developed a life of it's own and got away.

I love the idea of trying to add up everything in life.
