Artist's Comments

Shiraike Jigoku, one of the famous 'Nine Hells' of Beppu, southern Japan. The Jigoku are natural hot springs where mineral-rich water or muds boil from the ground in spectacular fashion. Only hundreds of metres apart, each has it's own unique character, and is situated in its own distinct garden. The Nine Hells are a must-see for any visitor to the hot spring resort of Beppu.

Possibly my favourite of all the nine Hells of Beppu :)

Wow. I really like this. I love how you captured the mist rising above the water with the building poking through in the background. I would actually hang this on my wall :) I'm going to make sure I go to Japan sometime in the future, even more so after looking at your work :D

Thank you for your comment. This hot spring pool (and all the others in the neighbourhood) were fascinating to photograph because of the steam rising in ever-changing shapes from the surface of the water, and the temple architecture all around. Japan is a fascinating place to visit - such a land of contrasts.
